What better way to finish the season than with Venus Rising ! On the full moon come and be a part of a powerful evening filled with great food and company, to then be marveled by those who share their talent through song, art, spoken word, short film, poetry. etc. Venus is the Roman goddess whose functions encompassed love, beauty, sex, fertility, prosperity, victory, and desire. Come celebrate the Divine on the full moon in a women’s circle. Bring your voices or anything you would like to share this evening to participate and witness.

We are honored to host Velma Siteine, Samoan native from New Zealand who has stepped straight off the plane to perform in the US. She is a prolific singer song writer that speaks to the land and to the peoples on a global scale that resonates heart language. Her voice mesmerizes all her audiences and her wordsmith skills create powerful images. When Velma is not performing, she is passionately teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to indigenous children in New Zealand.

TRET FURE

Tret Fure began her career at the age of 16, singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest. At 19,she moved to LA in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis, touring with him and penning the single for his album “Mousetrap”.
One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Tret Fure has released 15 albums and CD's over the course of her 46 year career. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.
In the early 80s, Tret began exploring the independent side of the industry discovering the blossoming genre known as Women’s Music. She recorded with and produced some of the best of women’s music including the legendary “Meg & Cris at Carnegie Hall” (1983).

HIDA VILORIA

Hida Viloria is a queer Latinx writer, activist, and author who has been in the vanguard of intersex and non-binary activism for two decades as a frequent consultant (UN, Lambda Legal, Human Rights Watch), speaker (Princeton, Stanford, NYU…), television and radio guest (Oprah, 20/20, NPR, BBC…), and one the most extensively published writers in the field. This past spring, Hida was interviewed in Rolling Stone Magazine, Psychology Today, and NPR about the release of her memoir, Born Both: An Intersex Life, the first book by an intersex author to be published by a Big 5 publishing house (Hachette Books). MATTHEW ANDRAE

Jicarilla Apache Matthew Andrae is an international recording artist featured at the Winter Olympic Games, The World Expo, Apple France, and various television and movie scores. Most notably, Matthew co-composed and led the world’s largest simultaneous prayer for peace at the Winter Olympic Games, with over eight million children from around the globe simultaneously singing “The Next Country Over” in partnership with P.B.S. in the Schools, and The Music Educators National Congress.
Matthew’s song “Sweet Celine” captivated over 600,00 viewers on YouTube. His sound (think Israel Kamakawiwo ‘ole meets Tracy Chapman) is what keeps him dividing his time playing in Europe and the U.S. He sold over 50,000 CD’s on his own, but his music remained a regional phenomenon. Matthew's music combines the groove of a Stevie Wonder. His songs are played on a Guitalele (a cross between a classical guitar and a tenor ukulele).

We are very honored to kick the season off with the extraordinary singer songwriter Narissa Bond who lives in Virginia Beach and winner of the Hampton Roads Portfolio Awards for best album and best song ”.
“She is an artist who paints stories with the brush of inspiration and love.” – Cynthia Bond, New York Times bestselling author
Her mother urged her to tell family stories. Narissa took that to heart -- “When I write, those voices come to me.” And it’s a clear voice, like the one in “Road to Berea,” about her great-grandfather James, born into slavery, who walked 75 miles to Berea, Kentucky, where he attended college as a free man. His mother gave him a cow to pay for the tuition. Other stories flow through her songs, some that are personal, and others with lyrics so deep, they feel like family tales. Blessed with a warm soprano, this award-winning musician has released several albums including one, "False Gods", scheduled for 2017. You can hear her idols in her music, from Joni Mitchell’s finely crafted songs, and from Tracy Chapman, a sharp rhythmic and melodic sense. But Narissa is her own woman. She studied classical music, and jazz guitar, and there are elements of that in her work, as well as a nod to the blues and a strong connection to contemporary folk.

Carol Vigil and Leila Flores Dueñas, are Las Flores del Valle. We are honored to have this extroardinary duo back because of high demand from their last impacted performance!! Las Flores del Valle is passionate about what they sing and their message conveys empowerment to women. In sharing music they hope to preserve the nuances of the many musical genres that are native to borderlands and to their families’ histories and herstories. Their harmonies have often been compared to the various women’s hermana duetos or sister-duos.
